Sycuan’s Education Department


Sycuan recognizes the future of Sycuan’s social and economic advancement depends on promoting education of Sycuan’s future leaders. Education is important for the revitalization, retention, and maintenance of traditional knowledge that was passed to Sycuan through ancestors. Sycuan recognizes the crucial role of Indigenous knowledge as an integral part of Nation building in the present and future education of its tribal members and the Kumeyaay Nation at large.

Sycuan has created several programs to meet the growing educational needs of its tribal members and the Kumeyaay Community. These programs were designed to meet all levels of educational needs, from kindergarten to post-secondary education. These programs are based upon the best Indigenous knowledge and Western knowledge so that each student can receive a well-balanced education.

    Sycuan has created and/or sponsored the following programs:

  • Infants and Toddlers
  • Preschool Program
  • After School Program
  • School Break and Summer Activities
  • GED CLasses
  • Kumeyaay Language Institute
  • Kumeyaay Community College

TDV

The Tribal Digital Village Network (TDVNet) was created with the intent to bring Internet connectivity to the member tribes of SCTCA and empower their people. The Tribal Digital Village(TDV) is a continued set of objectives to help SCTCA achieve its mission thru technology, first and foremost, devised by the community leaders to handle the technical aspects of meeting its mission statement. The primary mission of Southern California Tribal Chairmen's Association (SCTCA) is to serve the health, welfare, safety, education, cultural, economic and employment needs of its tribal members and descendants in the San Diego County urban areas.
